History was made over the weekend when Tunisian tennis star, Ons Jabeur, became the first Arab-Muslim to reach the Wimbledon Finals.

Jabeur faced Elena Rybakina of Kazakistan in the match, and although she didn’t win, 27-year-old Jabeur made a social impact by making it not only to the finals but using her opportunity on live television to wish Muslims everywhere an “Eid Mubarak.” A clip of Jabeur speaking after the match went viral when she said,

“i just want to wish eid mubarak to all muslims around the world, it’s very important.”

Off the court, the tennis star is known for her bubbly personality and she’s been gaining more respect after the statement she made.

Jabeur has received an outpouring of support from many fans on Twitter.

One user stated, “It has been a delight to watch you play: your variety in your shots, your hands, and your heart on the tennis court are inspirational. Congratulations on a tremendous @Wilmbeldon!”

“Your outlook on tennis and life are uplifting to many. Keep smiling and trusting yourself and your talents and your future is limitless.” wrote another.

Jabeur herself also took to Twitter writing,

“I hope to have inspired Tunisia, the African continent, and the Arab world throughout my Wimbledon journey. I’ll be back on the Centre Court. Keep dreaming young girl 🍓

Eid Mubarak to all Muslims around the world! ✨

Jabeur has been ranked as high as number two in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association and is currently the highest-ranked number one Tunisian player. Beyond those amazing achievements, she is also the highest-ranked African and Arab tennis player in the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association.
